Adventures in 2015

I woke up tired. Worse still, my guts are not quite right. Was it the water from the spa, the yak cheese, the Tibetan muesli or those kids in Gatlang. Anyway, a runny tummy is par for the course when travelling, even when travelling in Australia I cop it sometimes. The dogs last night were having a party. They would run around the entire town and bark in each sector, for a seemingly endless period of time.

We walked through Gatlang village and were dismayed to discover much nicer more interesting accommodation offerings than that where we stayed, you have to be alert to your guides as often they will take you to places where they see their friends or get some sort of kick back. Oh well, hopefully someone else will benefit by reading this blog.

Syabru Besi, was the start of our trek. It was a steep and hot one at that. It was a slog for us to move on and up, especially straight after the many hours of flying and car transit.

Today we drove from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi. Even though it was a long one, we travelled in a comfortable SUV and had a stops whenever we felt the need. After the long haul on the plane to get here from Melbourne, an additional few hours in a vehicle didn't matter a great deal: we slept a good deal of the way.

This trip was a special trip for me as my daughter asked if she could go on my next big trip. An opportunity to do one of my trips with my child at her request is very special. Soon after we returned Nepal suffered a major earthquake where Langtang was at the epicentre, I was upset for months afterwards having enjoyed the company of the Nepalese people and seeing the many images of the extensive destruction of their homes and life. Whenever I can I will return and recommend to friends to visit and support the trekking industry: the mountains and scenery and people are altogether simply stunning. We have to move forward in our lives, natural catastrophic events will occur on occasion anywhere around the world, and equally, man-made ones can effect us just as badly.
